Hardship subsidies were a key recommendation in the NSW Small Business Commissioner’s report into the health impact of the orders.

Grants are intended to cover unavoidable business expenses such as utilities, rent, financial or legal advice, marketing and communications activities that are not otherwise subsidized by the government.
Covid 19 Pandemic: Small Business Recovery Grant Program Webinar
A $3,000 grant is available to qualifying small businesses that have experienced a reduction in turnover of 30 per cent or more due to the Northern Beaches lockdown.
A $5,000 grant is available to small businesses experiencing a decline of 50% or more.
Other funds available to qualifying businesses include a $1500 small business rate to cover NSW and local government levies and charges, changes to the payroll tax threshold and a $500 million Dine & Discover program which started as a pilot program on the Northern Beaches in February.
Applications for Disability Allowance and other incentives can be made online through the Service NSW app or website or by calling Service NSW on 13 77 88.

From July 2022, hospitality businesses will be able to apply for up to $5,000 in outdoor dining allowances, and planning rules will be relaxed further to make it easier to get business permission. The Australian Banking Association (ABA) has announced a national support package for 2021 for small businesses recovering from lockdown due to COVID-19 or a recent lockdown. Assistance includes options for full payment, partial payment or hardship assistance. Customers should contact their financial institution to discuss available options. The Commonwealth Government will guarantee 50% of the value of eligible business loans to SMEs affected by COVID-19. The maximum loan amount is $250,000 and the repayment period is six months.
