Some Flash-class smartphones enhance facial recognition features to work optimally and accurately. For example in the iPhone X where this technology is available in FaceID. Facial scanning is not only done by capturing 2D shapes in objects, but is processed into 3D images.

As the name suggests, the iris scanner is used to authenticate users based on scans of the eyes (irises). This technology is said to be much more secure than fingerprint readers and facial recognition. Because eyeprint recognition is still very difficult to penetrate.

Iris scanning is present and a key feature of Samsung’s flagship smartphones, from the Galaxy S8 onwards and the Galaxy Note 8 onwards. Some budget smartphones also have this feature, for example the ZTE Blade S7. Unfortunately, the accuracy is far from optimal.
