Sign in during initial device setup

Did you just buy a new iOS device? When you activate a new iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch, you’ll be prompted to sign in with your Apple ID.

If you don’t have an Apple ID, you can create one first so you can sign in and use your iOS device. For those of you who are new to using an Apple device, please read: How to create an Apple ID doesn’t have to be from an iPhone.

After creating an account and signing in, all Apple services will automatically be set up on your iOS device. However, you can change your login preferences at any time by using a different account. For example, use a different Apple ID for iCloud and iTunes.

Set payment options for app access

Not all apps that can be used on iOS devices are free apps. To make it easy to purchase paid apps, please complete setup when you first participate through the iTunes and App Store.

If you connect through the iTunes and App Store, you’ll need to add credit card or other payment information to secure payments to your account. You can’t sign in to iTunes and the App Store with multiple Apple IDs at the same time.

This makes it easy for you to ensure that all your app, music, and other purchases are made only through the devices you use. If someone else uses your Apple ID to shop on other devices, you’ll get a notification.

Setting up the account with a previous version of the operating system

You may be using a used Apple device that is still running iOS 10.2 or earlier. You can configure the previous version of the Apple service settings separately by doing the following:

– Go to “Settings” > “iCloud” menu, sign in with Apple ID.

– Go to the Settings > App Store menu and sign in with your Apple ID.

– Go to Settings > FaceTime > Sign in with Apple ID to turn on FaceTime.

Use Apple ID for iCloud services

Can the Apple ID be used in all services and applications provided by Apple? Of course, Apple even recommends users to use the same Apple ID for all Apple services on their iOS device. This includes iTunes, App Store, and iCloud services.

Why do you have to use an Apple ID for all services? Using multiple Apple IDs across multiple services creates confusion that can cause problems when purchasing specific content or apps.

If you use the same Apple ID account for all services, only one account and password will be saved. So if you are asked to sign in with iCloud, it means you are signing in with your Apple ID.

As an iOS newbie, you already know how to use Apple ID, right? Make sure you always know how to properly control account access on different devices, yes.
